Puerto del Carmen - Lanzarote On
the southern coast of Lanzarote, the one with less wind, is the oldest and best-known
holiday resort Puerto del Carmen - the 'pulsating' tourist centre of the Island
- with two merging areas: its original downtown area of La Tiñosa which
unfolds around the old fishermen's port and its very special atmosphere; and the
new part which has been developing along the 6 -7 km long sandy beach and promenade
'Avenida de las Playas' over the last thirty years or so. |
| | | The
most beautiful hotels, apartment
complexes and marvellous exclusive residential districts are situated on the
northern outskirts of Puerto del Carmen. Puerto del Carmen is the ideal
holiday resort for the sun worshipper who only wants to rest on the beach or at
the swimming pool of his hotel, as for the early bird who loves to take walks
at sunrise, and also for the night owl who cares for dancing and entertainment.
A wide selection of shops and shopping centres, entertainment halls, restaurants
and bars offers all sorts of possibilities for good buys and leisure activities,
both during the day and at night.
People of all nationalities and age-groups can be met here. |

In the old village of Puerto del Carmen, 'La Tiñosa', a great
choice of exclusive restaurants of the most different nationalities are to be
found. Aside from the traditional Canarian cuisine, there are restaurants with
Italian, English, Indian or Chinese cooking, and other. Only in spring
of 2002, the shopping centre Biosfera was opened next to the Guardia Civil and
the post office, housing a great variety of shops, boutiques, cafés, bars
and restaurants. A holidaymaker looking for action at night will always
prefer Puerto del Carmen to the two other more recent holiday resorts of Costa
Teguise and Playa Blanca. |
| In the shopping centre 'Centro Atlántico'
on the 'Avenida de las Playas', the night owl will find the best choice of discos
and night clubs, among others the 'Waikiki Beach Club' that has been going there
for over 20 years. (night life>>>) Or
the 'Cervecería San Miguel' where the latest of pop music alternates with
video oldies presented on a super screen, and where young and not so young people
meet for the evening. However, during the high season from September to
April nightlife can't be compared with that of Playa del Inglés on Gran
Canaria or of Ibiza, since especially the older generations of northern Europe
turn their backs on the cold climate of the winter months, hibernating on Lanzarote. |

During this time, it then is particularly
the English and Scandinavian tourist who sees to a lively hustle and bustle, enjoying
the booze in view of the cheep prices for alcoholic beverages.
